They just don't want to hurt our feelings. It's not easy to explain why people lie. First of all, it's not pleasant to think about being betrayed by someone you love. No one likes to think that a husband or wife may be lying, especially not in their own relationship.
If the truth were told, our close relationships could not work without some degree of deception. No relationship could withstand "the truth, and nothing, but the truth".
Whether we like it or not, our relationships are held together, not only by telling the truth, but also by an occasional lie.
Undoubtedly, it is safe to assume that everyone wants a close, romantic relationship that is built on openness, intimacy, and trust. Despite our best intentions, our close relationships do not always work that way.
Often, romantic relationships and marriages lead to betrayal, secrecy, and distrust.
In fact, deception is more likely to occur as two people get closer, especially when romance is involved.

man is that a good question!!! I think they lie because they are just not capable of ever doing the right thing at the right moment! But we girls probably make them nervouse because we tend to have high expectations, so they maybe feel like they have no other option

boys lie because they get so sick of whinging women always telling them whats right or wrong, so they end up just telling u lie (that they think u want to hear) just to shut u up

i wouldn't say most, but sometimes we go to far but still don't want to hurt other's feelings when it is sometimes important
