I have a '90 Mazda 626,and it was built to use the old-type leaded gas...However leaded gas is not available anymore in my country...Is there a risk of damage for my car's engine in long-term if use unleaded gas? Thanks...

Nothing will happen. The engine has an aluminum head which means it automatically has hardened valve seats. This is the only area that unleaded causes a problem in older engines. You are good to go. If you are losing sleep at night about it go and get some lead additive and pour it in the tank but you will be wasting your money.

the older cars needed the lead to help with lubrication of the valves etc. It will run, but not very well, or long. I believe you can by lead substitute in the stores.
Or consider upgrading the fuel delivery system etc to match modern fuel.
But I think if it had a cat. Converter on it it was set up for unleaded?

Lead in the fuel was to help the valve train all engines built from 1982 on will run fine on unleaded. Even older cars have no problem so your fine.

first off if it has a cat it didnt use leaded gas. and yes if it was a car intended to run on leaded gas it would cases major damage to the heads leaded gas provided a buffer of sorts with out it your valves or valve guides would be destroyed i had a 89 mazda mx6 no cat either it was removed as was yours more than likely but some countries dont require them so there you go

no i don't think a 90 model was built for the other gas,,but either way,,unleaded wont hurt it,,and you wont notice any performance difference either way,,it cant hurt it in any way,,and a 90 model did come with a catalytic converter,so unleaded gas will be OK,,hope this help,s.

If it is a 1990 you have the hardened valve seats and there should be no problem. The catalytic has nothing to do with your question as it is not part of the engine.

no it won't hurt any thing, but the auto part store has things that u can add to the gas that will put a buffer back in the fuel for the valve seats......
