In Muslims countries women are swathed in clothing, in Western Countires they are stripped of clothing. In general most politicians and artist have been male. Do you think there is equality between the sexes and if not how can we correct it, or will it always be?

No, women and men are not treated as equals in this world. I think there will always be an inequality, though it can be made much better the more civilized we behave toward each other. Whether there will always be gender oriented inequality? I think that's likely.

The problem is rooted in biology, not psychology or culture. Biology can change over time, but it needs a mechanism for change that humanity no longer has. There are physiological differences between the genders that create a discrepancy in equality, for example the hypothesized ability to communicate or intution and its ties to the gender specific dimorphisim of the corpus collosum.

There are other factors at work, the primary being the physiological roots of social interaction. When we interact with members of the our own gender or the opposite gender, particularly when we're single or childless, the imperative to reproduce makes us behave in ways that pander to the desireable mate. That's why rich older men have gorgeous young women playing the bimbo on their arms. A desireable mate (in the average case) is one that has power and then potency.

Even in groups where the dominant person is female or in groups of homosexuals, there is still an unequal balance in the relationships. Someone is dominant and most others are not. Even if we managed to root out instinct based on gender, there will still be alphas and betas, they'll just be defined differently.

Of course we aren't. It will eventually come, but we still have quite a ways to go. I think "equality" shouldn't be the issue so much as "respect for differences." Men and women are different, and that's a good thing. We have different strengths and weaknesses, and if we could learn to respect the other's abilities, we could complement each other nicely. I think it's more important to accept that we're different and stop trying to be the same. The best way to explain what I mean is through a little basic math.

Men and women will never be equal like this: 4 = 4
But we can be equal like this: 1+3 = 2+2

See what I mean? Different, but equal.

Note to those who say "women have it made" - In the United States, we make 20% less money than men (nearly 40% less if you include those who work part time) in spite of the fact that we have slightly HIGHER education levels. We make up 46% of the workforce but are still (by far) the primary caretakers of our homes and children. We make up only about 15% of our government representatives and have had the right to vote for just 86 years. We are 10 times more likely to be physically or sexually abused by our spouse or boyfriend. Finally, 1 in 33 men will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime compared to 1 in FIVE women.

Yeah, we have it made.

Women are not treated equally. You yourself has mentioned the Middle East, but mostly in third world countries women are still not treated equally. Even in the U.S. there are parts of the military which women are not allowed to participate in, and we only have the ERA (Equal Rights Act), not yet an amendment [Acts have a limited time in use before renewal]. Women on average in our own society make 26 percent less then men. I do not think there will ever be equality, as men still hold the power over us. They still can decide whether or not to renew the act. That does not mean, however, that it is not worth fighting for.

I think alot of places in the world have tried to treat women as equals (which is great) , but no we are not and probably never will be as males will always be seen as the more dominate race, For example their physic & build is usually stronger than a females, they are usually less emotional (and crying is still seen as a weekness, and yes girls are percieved to do that alot too)
and they are still seen as the sex to take charge in a situation and as the hunter and gatherer..this is also coming back to tradition and if we still percieve men as hunters & breadwinners now after all these decades it proves that tradition sticks thick and I highly doubt in our lifetime this will be corrected and resolved as the govt etc can do all they want to bring in equal rights to women.. but it all comes down to family values and the father being the head of the house and also media & adverting still convey this tradation quiet strongly too..

There will always be the haves and the have-not's. Right now Women are one of the have-not's. The group of Have not's just gets larger and larger. While the haves insure that the Have-not's don't get enough to be considered as have's. Equality like Freedom is just a concept, No one is free and there isn't equality.

Equal or not. The world isn't perfect and will probably never be perfect. There is still so much progress to be made. I think that as technology and science affect our quality of life more and more, that eventually, people won' t care about what sex you are. Superiority may someday be based on intelligence. Until then there isn't anything we can do to change the mind of a man that was brought up to believe women are inferior to them or a woman that was brought up to believe that she is inferior to a man. I just think women will have to work harder to prove to the world that they can be intellectually (not physically) equal.

'No, women are not treated as equals in this world.
There is a lot of discrimination against women in the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.
Have you heard of anything called Honour rape or honour killings? Researching on that would give you a picture of how discriminated women are.
However, the situation isnt this bad for women in all walks of life.
There are many countries, one specifically in the Middle East where women have much better job opportunities than men. Here they are treated hospitably, with courtesy and live an easier and happier lifestyle.

Despite the fact that women are known as the weaker sex, i truly believe that..

THE WEAKER SEX IS STRONGER THAN THE STRONGER SEX BECAUSE OF THE WEAKNESS OF THE STRONGER SEX FOR THE WEAKER SEX !!

I think if anything it's the men who are getting dumped on...let me point out some things:

--If a man leaves his family he's a jerk. If a woman does it she's being independent.

--Men get the hose when it comes to custody of children.

--Women think they're "liberated" when they dress like tramps; yet what they're doing is putting themselves on display...like a piece of meat. Ironic or what?

I sure don't feel like a second-class citizen.

Has it occurred to some people that maybe some Muslim women don't mind dressing like that, or maybe some prefer to? Some Muslim men treat their wives well (not saying I like Islam).

No, and neither are all adult men. interior the western international, even with the undeniable fact that, there are merely some possibilities denied to females. merely because of the fact a female would not take place to be prolific in a particular section does no longer inevitably denote discrimination! i could be keen to wager that merely about all of plumbers and motor vehicle fix technicians are adult men. Is it inevitably because of the fact of discrimination? uncertain. in my view, no female chum of mine has any interest in those aspects (many females do, little doubt, yet I heavily doubt that's a majority). even with the undeniable fact that, CEOs in companies, to get the place they're, could put in superb hours at artwork. which ability time far flung from family individuals and infants. many females with infants merely *choose* to no longer spend that lots time far flung from their families. as a result, they sometimes do no longer pursue the better prestige positions. apart from the obtrusive -- father, brother, uncle, son, nephew -- i actually can think of of no longer something interior the u . s . it quite is denied to me because of the fact i'm female. while human beings say that females basically make X volume of money to each dollar a guy makes, you may delve into precisely what's being in comparison. The stay-at-homestead mom who makes $one hundred. a month being secretary for her toddler's soccer team is interior the extensive class of all females's salaries. this is lots extra in all probability that a female could have a small or section-time activity fairly than a guy. yet, ALL females's salaries are being in comparison to ALL adult men's salaries. as we communicate, once you evaluate equivalent education and experience, females usually do no longer basically make as much as adult men, yet in some aspects, surely surpass adult men's salaries!
