And some women are dilated early and do not ever have any problems. I was dilated early on (not quite 6 months) but didn't have my baby until 9 months. I wouldn't worry too much.

My dos told me I was 2 cm dialated at 7 1/2 months and that it wasn't anything to worry about. If she is having labor pains or her water breaks, then she needs to go to the doctor. Otherwise, i would tell her to do the same thing. Bed rest is probably the best thing for her. this doesn't mean that she will for sure have a premature baby, but it can happen. Here is some good news though... most fetuses that come out any time after 6 months have a really good chance of survival. Try to help her out and not let her get stressed out or do anything like heavy lifting or standing for long periods of time. As long as she follows the docs orders, she should be fine. I hope all goes well and good luck!

Every pregnancy is differant. Your sister has already done the right thing by seeing a doctor and staying on bedrest. No one can say whether or not the baby will be really early, but she does need to follow orders and stay down in hopes of carrying to at least 36-38 weeks. Alot depends on the condition of her cervix and whether or not she has any bleeding or other abnormal discharge. Hope that you will have a precious, healthy bundle of joy in the family soon...but not too soon!

Some go months being dialated to a 2 so don't worry . Help her and make sure she stays in bed though because you don't want an early baby if you don't have to. The baby is safe now.Play games or bring her books and mags. and help her with food and house work so she won't feel like she has to get up because it is piling up. Make sure she knows that it isn't an inconvenience for you to do it. Congrats on the baby and I will say a prayer for your sister and baby.

I was 1 cm dilated for a long time before I actually gave birth.. ( almost a week)... they even induced and nothing happened... (my baby reacted so they had to remove the drip)... left me there... finally I had a c-sect... it really took so long... depends on each person... your sis needs bed rest so the baby wont come out until it is time...

doesnt neccessarily mean anything but the doctor is being cautious, which i totally agree with. Is this her first child? if not, then its pretty common for her to be dilated already. you are usually slightly dilated all the time after child #1.
