Hi there,
I have watched that replay over so many times to try to define what happened. Just my opinion of course but I don't feel it was at all intentional. He was challenging for the ball between two other players, they fell and scuffled for ball control. From how I saw it, it looked to me as though Rooney had his eye on the ball and his back to the player while getting to his feet trying to regain balance. He could not really have known the exact position of the other player. He did look at the player after he felt his contact, but not before. Anyhow I don't like or dislike Ronaldo, but I think his interaction was unnecessary as I think the referee should have been able to decipher for himself what the situation was. Ronaldo should have stayed out of that one I think and assisted his team mate rather than make the incident about his thoughts and reactions.

When Rooney stepped on him, it was just an accident. He didn't know where his feet were going. That's why so many people are angry at Cristiano Ronaldo for telling the referee to give Rooney a red card, it was unfair and uncalled for. There was no malicious intent that warranted a red card. It was simply accidental. And the Portuguese chap (who was stepped on) was quite fine after the incident. So it was very unfair indeed for Rooney to get that red card. Look Louisa, I don't hate Ronaldo or anything. I'm just saying it was an accident, his feet became tangled up, and he didn't really know where his feet were going, if you watch it over you can see this. I just said Ronaldo's actions were wrong to get Rooney red-carded, okay?

Clearly yes. There was no reason in the world to land that foot there with that strength.
Get over it. rooney is a joke. England was good but played with no strikers. Incredible they cannot find one in second division to do better than that. In Italy they left home Lucarelli, the great striker of Livorno, they should have loaned him to England, under the name of Lucarelly. With that man England could have won the WC. Rooney go home.

Rooney lost his self-control. That's not unintentional but it is not exactly on purpose either. If Rooney adds self-discipline to his exceptional skills and motivation he might become a truly great player.

First off Cristiano Ronaldo didnt do anything.. so I hate how people hate him.. when he did nothing wrong!
& I think Wayne Rooney did it on purpose if you watch other videos of him he looses his temper! He clearly crushed him in the balls.. so he deserved the red card!

No I also do`nt believe Wayne stepped on carvalho on purpose, he was having a tussle with both carvalho & petit, with both of them commiting fouls on him (but he did`nt go down), when he stepped backwards to get his balance, I am not disputing that contact was made by accident between Wayne`s boot & carvalhos bits but, what you have to ask yourself is, If it was as bad as carvalho made out it was, how did he manage not only to play the rest of the match, but also play in both halves of extra time.

It was Rooneys push of C. Ronaldo that got him the red card not the stomp that was a yellow the push is what got him the red card.
