You are saying "adapter", so I think you mean one of those transformers that convert 120 AC to some lower voltage and even DC. Look on the back of the unit near the adapter socket. It should tell what voltage and the symbol should show the polarity of the plug. Once you have that information, you can get a really cheap one at many flee markets or a new one at Radio Shack, Best buy, Circuit City, Staples, etc. They will run about $15 to $20 there. Flee markets will cost between $1 and $5. The only things you need to know are the voltage, milliamps, polarity of the plug and the type of plug.
