There will always be those who remain divided, but honestly, I've been encouraged by some of the liberal-leaning answerers on here; not all, but some are well-reasoned and have sensible answers, without all the hate and rhetoric of their more extreme neighbors (and I'd hope that some Liberals around here could echo these statements towards conservatives). I'm not ready to take up any Liberal causes anytime soon, but it's nice to know there are some Lib-folk I could actually enjoy conversing with, rather than the angry, caustic comments that seem to make up the lion's share of Liberal responses.
I'm particularly interested in hearing from (reasonable) Liberals on this topic, but welcome Conservatives as well. Have we finally found a forum where we can get past all the beltway jargon and realize we're not that different?

I think this format is too fleeting. In order to bring two opposing sides together, each side must understand the other, and that takes time. Yahoo Answers, in contrast, is extremely ephemeral.

So is it possible for libs & cons to come together? Probably. But I don't think it will happen here.

Obligatory plug: libs & cons should both look at libertarianism. There's something for both sides there. Libertarians have a strong respect for civil liberties and caution against nation-building imperialism like liberals claim to, but we also have a strong desire for minimal gov't, minimal taxes, & a market economy, like cons used to profess before Bush changed the definition of what it means to be a con. But anyway, I think both sides could find some common ground here.

I think that it provides a forum outside the media where people can discuss ideas.Yes there are still those wacko idiots out there and crybabies who report people with differing opinions or say something they don't like. However I think the mature, informed, and intelligent people reign supreme on here. You said you are not ready to take up any cause but you can see a point because its thought out and concise.I being somewhere in the middle of things love to read the good answers and honest debate afforded by Answers and its participants.I only wish more people would actually do some research before they answered or just not answer at all.So in a nutshell I see the sensible people coming together and the wackos will stay wacko.

Maybe some of the time, but it also highlights some of the differences. Haven't you noticed how many people angrily disagree with other Yahoo! Answers participants! It starts just as many little arguments which perpetuate the division between these two groups.

I never understood how anyone could be totally conservative or totally liberal. Seems to me there are too many issues to honestly be able to do that.

Unfortunately only close enough to hurl insults at one another. I wish it wasn't so, but most of the extremes (right & left) only wanna stir the sh*t

All we do is snip at each other. I have two Neocons on my 360 and all they do is beat up on me.

Not complaining, understand. It's actually kind of fun.

No way, I want to have some Bar B Q with a few of them. (Neocons that is!)
