Is that how we should treat someone who is mentally ill? Andrea Yates has been found to be not guilty by reason of insanity. You obviously do not agree with the Jury. If you ever get prosecuted would you expect that the decision of a Jury of your peers - if they found you innocent- should be ignored and that you should be fair game for anyone who didn't like what you had been accused of? Because that is what you are advocating. Of course you may deny that there is such a thing as mental illness, so perhaps we should scrap mental health care and when the next pyschopath kills someone you love because they were not properly medicated then you can congratulate yourself.

As sickening and appalling as this case is, being sent to a mental institution is probably the worst possible punishment anyone could possibly bestow on her. She MUST have been stark raving, gouge your eyes out, lunatic asylum padded cell, eating poop CRAZY! As she is treated she will come to the FULL realization of what she has done and then she'll have to live with it the rest of her life. Although we should also realize that others near her saw the signs of postpartum depression and failed to intervene in an effective manner. That does not shift guilt but is simply an observation. The cement shoes would probably be a blessing. Those poor poor babies.

Hell yes,I haven't followed the story much lately, but the last time i heard, that freak boy husband of hers was still by her side. If true, he should go too.(should be locked up at least for child endangerment)If she is truly mentally ill, He should have obtained a court order to get her some help.In my humble opinion, there had to be less serious manifestations of mental illness prior to this heinous act that should have been addressed.I am not even close to being a psychologist ,But i recognize aberrant behavior when i witness it.As the leader(no offense feminists)of my family ,i don't have the option of burying my head in the sand and pretend problems don't exist.

Postpartum psychosis is a terrible affliction it strikes indescriminately bringing pain to all that are envolved. The tragedy in the Yates case was it was not controlled by her doctors ,mental health authorities and most importantly by her husband. It has left these children dead and a mind totally fragmented,to mete out punishment to the other victim of this illness would be inhuman.

YES...that woman will be spending the rest of her life like a vacation! WOW...the mental institute will definitely give her all she needs...AND that comes out of the tax payers' pockets! Maybe she should've taken advice from Marie Osmond or Brooke Shields! Maybe she listened too much to Tom Cruise's Scientology crap!
**Though I know Brook Shields disclosure of PPD was after Yates...just wanted to make a point**

No, her husband (I should say ex now) should be the one to be "fixed". That poor woman had 5 children one right after another and was crying for help for a long time. Did he listen? No, of course not! That slime bag divorced her and remarried not long after her trial. Sounds fishy to me. I'm glad she was found insane, poor thing needs help. She will have to live with the deaths of those children and that is more than punishment enough.

I think if she dies she will not suffer as much as if she lives. If this monster is really insane, she should be locked up in a mental ward where she could get better. After that, if she has a conscience, the realization that she killed her own children will eat her alive and then maybe she will kill herself.

YES...I cant believe someone actually wrote that we should give HER some grace. How about her little children that will never grown up and experience the world. INSANE, SICK or whatever the crazy idiot is labeled, she deserves DEATH, and not by lethal injection either.....your question sounds like a good ideal!

If you would take pleasure from killing a mentally ill person then sure go ahead. But you should follow her because you are just as crazy.
