Your kids are 12 months old..meaning one years of age. It's time to start them on whole milk. Yes the formula may have a little more nutrients but they'll get the nutrients from the food they eat. I'll like to think you aren't still feeding them baby food. They should be eating what you cook (hopefully healthy balanced meals).
There's also liquid vitamins available for younger kids.
I wouldn't worry myself to death over something like this. We often create unnecessary problems for ourselves.

Congrats on the twins. This is a difficult time in the mothering...decisions to make are sometimes scary.
If your Doctor said they could switch I would give it a try. However, I wouldn't go to a full bottle of whole milk right off the bat. When we switched we started with 3-1 ratio of milk and water (filtered). 6 oz water and 2 oz milk. Then after making sure they can tolerate the milk you can move it to 50-50 and then again to 1-3 and then whole.
Hope this makes sense. Can be confusing.
The main thing is to make sure the little ones tolerate the milk. Some little tummies can't handle the whole milk.
Good luck and Congrats again.
God Bless!

My son also was not a lover of formula, but loved whole milk and did drink more than the formula. We switched him at 12 months without a problem. Are the twins small-maybe that is why the doctor thought you should continue formula?

My daughter was drinking milk by the time she was 12 months and I still had about 14 can of formula left over from WIC so I gave her both until it was all gone.
But if you decide to wean them, make sure you do it gradually. Milk is honestly easier on the budget then formula and there are baby vitamins.
There is the liquid form (kinda expencive) and I actually got my daughter the Flintstone vitamins called First Pediatrics (made for two to three year olds) and I give one to my daughter every other day (because she isn't quite two yet) and it even says crush for those unable to chew them.

My baby is only 5 months old and I give him whole milk from time to time. Anybody who says that whole milk is bad is not using common sense and good judgement. Yes, sure, some doctors say it's not good but it's not bad either; my doctor said it's okay. Look at the ingredients of the formula! They use whole milk in it. So why not feed them plain whole milk, minus the other stuff they use in formulas?
I feed my baby milk and he's as healthy as can be.

Give 'em the milk!! I started my daughter on it mixed in her formula at 10 1/2 months, and at 12 months full strength. She likes it better than she ever like formula, and at this age they'll get the rest of the lost nutrients from food since they're eating more solids now. If anything, just try it for a while and see what happens. :)

It's OK to have them on whole milk at a year. Start by mixing a small amount of milk in with the formula and daily increase the milk until that's all they are drinking. A balanced diet should cover their nutritional needs. Have you tasted formula?!?! It's pretty nasty stuff...your daughter will prefer the milk :-)

If they are eating a variety of different foods to get vitamins and such from or taking a vitamin, whole milk should be fine. In my experience my kids really liked milk and it was an easy transition- one day formula the next day milk. Milk is much cheaper then formula too!

if you're concerned about the fat, like ronda seems to be, don't be. babies need the fat, it's good for them. also, I wouldn't give them a whole lot of juice. it's high in sugar (yes, even something like juicy juice - fruit has a lot of natural sugar) and if you give them too much they'll be filled up on that and won't want to eat more nutritional things. fruit is much better than just the juice because they get the fiber too.
you should try giving them the milk. do they drink out of sippy cups yet? you could try giving the milk in those. your daughter might drink more milk than formula. you won't know until you try though. :D
