i connect thru a cable/adsl modem,i also have a pci modem dial up for my fax,but all of a sudden when i try downloading or trying to access certain web sites my pci modem pops up and asks me to connect that it can't work off-line whats up with that it never did that before.....

Wow - that's really interesting. I have the same setup. If I were you, I'd shut down and power down (all electricity), turn off your cable modem and everything - and let it sit for a few minutes and flip it back on. Sometimes things 'get stuck' in memory and will keep doing wacky things. Powering down all the way can re-initialize everything.

If that doesn't clear out the problem, you can check your internet settings in control panel and make sure you don't have anything referring to your PCI modem. Sounds like there's a little confusion going on, espeically if it's XP - so powering down should fix it.

Make sure you make it your default connection as well, It did that to me a couple times, i went from Dial up to broadband, i just removed my dial up connection. Tools>Internet Options>Connections (tab) then if there is a dial up connection remove it. or you can check "never dial a connection" its below that, its the one with 3 options like Dial whenever a connection is not present, stuff like that.
