My car has a gas warning light that comes on when the fuel level in the tank is getting low. Should I wait for it to come on and then fuel up or go get gas before the light reminds me to? Do men and women look at this issue differently?

It's just a suggestion - you know kinda like a speed limit sign.

I am absolutely sure that men and women, generally speaking, see this differently. This advice is from someone who spent a considerable sum on having fuel injectors replaced last year.

Typically, when the light comes on in a modern car, you have app 1/8 of a tank left. What happens when the gas tank gets low is that you often pick up dirt off the bottom of the gas tank. Will you really harm anything if you don't go immediately when the light comes on? I seriously doubt it, but it is a warning to get to the gas station and NOT wait until you run it down a day or so. My wife still doesn't like it, but she changed her behavior:)

I always fill up when I get down to 1/4 tank. My husband and both daughters wait for the idiot light. They say they can go at least 30 miles once it comes on. They have never run out of gas, but I wouldn't take that chance. You never know when there will be an emergency and you don't have time to run by the station for gas.

Personally I NEVER like to see that light come on and want at least 1/4 tank at all times. Course if prices keep getting higher...

If you do wait, just don't be between exits on an interstate where a gas station is miles away. Not a fun place to be.

Fill up your car before the light comes on. Did you know that if you let the car run out of gas you can burn up the fuel pump? Could be quite costly to replace and a BIG inconvenience.

I'm a woman and I don't think that has anything to do with how a person takes care of their car. It's common sense. Don't let your tank get below 1/4. First of all, it's bad for the car, second of all, my guess is that you probably don't even have a gas can in your trunk.

You shouldn't wait until the light comes on to fuel up your car. Your car will be sucking up all the sediments on the bottom of your gas tank and it'll clog up your fuel filter.... Your car won't run as efficiently.

With the price of gas today, I try not to let my car go past the half full mark.

E does not equal enough! Your car gets better gas mileage when the tank is full so fill 'er up!
