my boss is paying me in cash (no tax) and although i have asked him to put me on the books he refuses, I know i should just quit but, this is the first job I have had in 12 years since having my son and I really need the experience to get my foot back in the door. Is there anyone I can report him to without getting myself in trouble. I am hoping this might give him a scare and he will do the right thing, no offense but he is chinese and very nasty and needs to learn a lesson, he makes enough to pay properly but just wont.

Are you based in Australia and Why do you want to pay tax?

If you're in Australia, Your boss wants to pay you cash so that he doesn't have to pay insurance, Super, Payroll tax etc. It's a lot cheaper for him.

Why don't you just give Workcover a call (1300 362 128) and "ask" them if you're covered if you have an accident. The obvious answer is No...but they will make sure that the guy is reported.

However - the downside is that he will fire you and then the Tax department will come after you for all the tax you haven't paid.

Be careful what you wish for....

The IRS has a tipline to report employers like this (or anyone who you suspect isn't paying their taxes properly). They will not tell him who called them. They will come in to audit his books, watch his business activity and may even talk to other employees. If he has more employees than are on his books, he will be in trouble. They will figure what he hasn't paid in taxes, add penalty and interest to that. He may even be charged with fraud and have to go to court.

The plus side of all this for you is that the IRS pays a 10% finder's fee to the person who reports him.

Example: if they discover he owes $100,000.00 in taxes, you would receive $10,000.00.

Is there some reason why you can't get another job? You don't need this weaselly b*st*rd. Where are you? If you're in the US, call the local library and ask about federal, state, and local agencies that enforce fair labor practices. Also, get the addresses and write to all three of your congresspeople. I hope you can find somebody to hang this jerk. He is NOT going to do the right thing, by the way, so don't fool yourself.

hello, my sister has asked me the same question and she cam to me for advice. what you do is if u you know your supervisor or your boss's supervisor than you should talk to them. And if nothing happens or if they cant solve it then go to the company marketing for your business they will definitely do something about it. Its not business type for a manager to not pay you when he probably knows you have a kid to keep food on the table definitely you should do one of the things i told you. They will probably work and I'm sure you wont get in trouble because the boss is supposed to pay you. Your boss will defiantly get fired or suspend. I hope This works for you.. good luck.

IRS providing you have been reporting your income you will be fine. The IRS will need documented proof or a witness that you have asked to be put on the books. But you haven't reported your income you have no one to turn too. without getting into trouble. I would quit.

Is there an EEO office in your work place? You could call the labor board, if he is operating a legitimate business it is illegal to pay someone under the table. You could also report him to the IRS.

I am guessing this is a small company, and he IS the owner, manager, and your Superior?

Since you have been accepting the money and still IS employed by him, there is no body you can report this to, and punish just him.

The proper authority will be IRS.

to the president of the company plus i think you should quit because if you're getting paid by cash or "under the table" you won't be able to list that as experience on your resume anyways. well that's what my career counselors tell me about my experiences.
