WHEN I TRY TO INSTALL DAWN OF WAR ;KEY CODE REQUIRES A SMALL CASE e BUT WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO TYPE IT. WHY NOT?

Try the keyboard code for the lower case e: Hold down the alt key and using the numeric key pad press 0101.

When in MS Word this is the same is pressing the lower case e on the keyboard. It may work in your install too.
