My first experience was so long ago that I don't really remember. I know it was a bit sore, but nothing that I couldn't tolerate. my second and third ones were pretty much a breeze and then my fourth one hurt like hell for some reason. my fourth one is on my upper back, right in the center and it was pretty damn painful.
as for art, I would just find some pictures of the tree frog in the position that you want it and bring it to an artist that can sketch it for you and change it a bit to make it how you want it. you're not likely to find much, if any, artwork of the tree frog already online.

Well, I've never gotten a tatto, though I plan to get one in the future. I think perhaps a red tree frog on your upper back or shoulder would be cool. You could design it like it was just hanging there.

If you go to a reputable tattoo artist, they can come up with a design for you. Bringing a reference picture with you, have a consultation with the person who will tattoo you, and tell them your ideas. They will come up with a sketch for you to approve. Don't be afraid to ask them to make changes if you don't love it - it's their job, and your body!
Don't just get a tattoo to get one...try to get something that is meaningful to you. Remember, there are more lousy tattoos out there than there are good ones...choose your tattoo artist wisely.
