I would go into prostitution first to see if you like getting f*cked. And, if you do, go into the music industry.

1. You must not suck. This is the most important, yet most frequently overlooked requirement.

2. You must have a great attitude. Be willing to take direction, because anyone powerful enough to help you turn pro is someone you do NOT want to piss off. At least, not until someone else MORE influential and powerful comes along.

3. You must have an original unique sound. read: Hetfield, Dimebag, Morello, Satriani, Petrucci, Malmsteen, Vai, etc. Those guys already have their own sound, so you can't sound TOO much like ANY of those guys or else everyone will think you're just a copycat, and they won't listen to you. Have your own sound, and they will listen. Give them something they've never heard before.

4. You must get very lucky and be in the right place at the right time. I've seen dozens of great players never make it even though they had all the right stuff. They just never got a break. This is not the exception. It is the norm. The odds are against you so be sure this is what you REALLY want to try. Be prepared to STARVE for your art.

No. 99% will not. For every rock musician that makes a living at it, there are thousands that won't have the same luck.
