The Ford Probe was built at a joint venture plant with Mazda in Michigan where the Ford Contour (the Americanized Mondeo) and Mazda 626 were also assembled. The Probe was available from 1989-1995.
The mechanical were basically that of the 626 and MX6 which, while in no way exciting, are legendarily reliable vehicles. It was also the only Ford-badged vehicle to ever have pop-up headlights. Sadly, the headlights have proved problematic with time and are a rather expensive repair.
If the Probe appeals to you, I would attempt to find a Mazda 626/MX6 or Ford Contour of similar vintage.
The vehicle called Probe was originally intended to be the next generation Mustang, albeit with a different front clip.

The Probe was a Ford, but it was actually made by a joint venture between Ford and Mazda, which ford is a part owner of anyway. They don't make the Probe anymore.
Personally, I'd never buy a Ford product. Originally, the Probe was going to be the next Mustang.... thank goodness that didn't happen, or else the mustang wouldn't be around today either - mustang buyers want muscle cars with powerful V8s, not sporty small cars with peppy V6s.

Ford sold the Probe under their car line, but the car was completely manufactured by Mazda. The car was discontinued, I have known a few people who owned them, not bad cars, can be a little expensive to fix though.

Ford made the Probe. They are no longer made but they were a good little sporty car if you got one with a turbocharger. it was also designed by a woman so it was a good car for a lady who wanted a sport type car.
