I am assuming that u have good knowledge of Computer and OS.

Go Thru the GUI Setup of linux,
During installation Please Select Custom Installation,

Here u can select Items that u want to Install Including
Many Types of server (e.g. Web Server, New Server etc)
Now from here u can select appropriate server to install.

n if you getting any error after installation then go thru man pages or info pages.

You say manuals don't help you because you don't know linux, but the only stuff we can tell you is in the manuals.

You need to learn about BSD if you want to be able to use it. That involves reading manuals, and how to guides etc.

It just seems to me you want to skip looking things up yourself and would prefer have someone tell you what to do step by step. That's hardly building a server yourself, and I know no one who would do that, if you weren't willing to do some learning yourself.

do not uninstall ubuntu - merely set up the bits that did not get put in once you install ubuntu computer - then it will be ubuntu server with the GUI. you'll choose LAMP, ssh, ftp(non-compulsory) and besides the reality that else strikes your fancy. BSD and editions are favourite for hardened production grade servers yet no longer with suggestions from a lot.

First. Learn Linux.
There is no point to making a Linux server if you don't have a clue how to use it.
