I have a couple hundred books, many hardcover and in good condition. Would ebay be the best way to sell them?

I've made quite a little bit of "new book" money selling old paperbacks on half.com. They have a fixed price there, but there's no fee to put them up for sale. You have to pay a small amount to list an auction on ebay. However, if you have a whole series by a certain author, I'd sell them together on Ebay.

If they're popular titles that will sell quickly, go with EBay. If you think it will take awhile to sell them and you want to set a fixed price, try Half.com

Take a look at www.readitswapit.com, where you can swap your books for new ones that you want to read. People always send their books within 2 days, I'd highly recommend it.

Half.com is from Ebay and you can list each book separately.

My father-in-law set up a store with www.abebooks.com. They have a pretty good system for organizing your collection, selecting which ones to sell, etc.
