First of all, there is no god. You also cannot have an all-loving and caring god who is also all powerful and all knowing without something there not working. I don't understand these answers that god allows bad things to happen because it will teach us something, nor will he/she/it give us "more than we can handle." What about children who die? What is god teaching them? Wouldn't a terminal illness in a child be more than they can handle? The lesson here is that god will allow a child to suffer incredible pain? What does god gain from this? I have friends who's 16 year old son has cancer and may die from it. What's the lesson? If there is a lesson to be learned here couldn't it have been learned another way? Either god isn't all-loving or all-powerful or isn't aware of it happening. Or, there is no god and bad stuff just happens in life.

You may not like this answer or understand, but here goes. If you know anything about the Bible this might help you. It starts in the beginning with Adam and Eve. Eve ate the forbidden fruit that satan told her she could eat. God had told them not to and satan told them they could. She ate from it. There was a question raised after that. Who was more fit to rule God or satan. So, satan is being given a chance to rule to prove who would make a better ruler, him or God. Now, we see what a mess satan has made. God is going to put an end to this but He has to let the time run out on this. He is a fair and just God, so that being said there was basically a deal made. Satan had a certain amount of time to prove that he is a better ruler. God Has to let this time run out. Be patient, go to Church and find comfort in the fact that God will put an end to this. He says He will.

God allows bad things to happen because God have people the right to free will. Also, just as there is good in the world, there are also evil forces in the world which sway people to make bad choices.

When Adam and Eve chose to sin per advice from the devil, sin came into the world, along with sickness, death, etc. Prior to that, there was not sickness, or death, etc. Ever since, we have a sin nature. Only when you die, if you are a Christian, then in eternity, there will be no sickness, death, or bad things.

We wouldn't know the good things otherwise. I could never pretend to know why God acts in the ways He does, but I sometimes wonder how many more bad things would happen if He wasn't there.

He is God! He can do whatever he wants. He allows bad things to happen because thats how we all go through life. Without conflicts, theres not a purpose to life.

the bad things teach us. It's like when you let your son skateboard. and you warn him that he coudl fall and get hurt and he goes out there and falls. but you don't immeaditaly go and make sure he's okay, you watch and see what his next move is. and eventually he's got skateboarding down. The bad things are when God lets us learn from our mistakes.
