i seen it on the news today. there is a nc state senator trying to get it legalized to grow. it is used to make many different things. from purses to shoes and even clothes. ok i live in nc and with all the tobacco regulations our economy has really suffered. growing hemp might bring in new crops for the farmers to grow and maybe even boost up the economy, but those who oppose it say it looks to much like weed and that would make it easier for drug dealers to hide the weed and harder for police officers to tell the difference, so do you think that it should be legal to grow and market hemp why or why not?

It is kind of stupid. I could go to canada, buy a bale of hemp and bring it back to the US in a standard pickup truck. Noone would care. However growing the same stuff in the US would put me in prison.

To the other answerers this isn't marijuana. We are talking about industrial hemp. Meaning bred to have drugs that cause discomfort rather than highs. Cannabis species plant contains both types of drugs. When farmers first started farming industrial hemp in canada, some teens decided to raid the farm and take away armfuls of the crop. They never tried it a second time. I wonder why.

Legalize it! George Washington and Tom Jefferson grew it, and smoked it. If it's good enough for our forefathers, it's good enough for me.

It's a flipped answer I know. I'm just tired of restating all the pros. No one listens anyway.

-It's important to note: Marijuana is indeed "hemp". Strains of hemp grown for utilitarian uses will always spread into the wild and eventually, generations down the line, develop offspring with high THC levels.

I don't think this is an effective argument against the use of hemp because I also favor full legalization of marijuana for personal use. It's far less damaging than alcohol or nicotine and the "gateway drug" myth has been debunked a thousand times over.

It's a very useful textile, moreso than cotton. I would bet that this is the only country where its illegal.
