Why does everyone think this is such a ridiculous question? It really is a good question, and the answer is both yes and no. Man did not actually "make" the hurricane, but the damage we have been doing to the environment no doubt played a huge role in the forming of the hurricane and the intensification when it got into the Gulf of Mexico. Global warming has caused the ocean temperatures to rise significantly worldwide, but in the Gulf of Mexico, the water has been abnormally warm. Last year, the water was measured at 87 degrees fahrenheit! After crossing over Florida and emerging into the Gulf, Katrina was able to gain unbelieveable strength over the warm waters that WE created. So in a sense, Katrina was definitely a man-made disaster.
As for the reaction of the government, and the city of New Orleans, federal response was far too slow, as was the mayor's response to the situation. Many lives could have been saved if the federal government would have only sent more aid and made sure that ALL the residents evacuated immediately. This damage and loss of human life was also man-made.

The hurricane itself was an act of nature; the levees breaking... that was all man.

And really, how bold of us to believe we could alter the natural protection of the coastline by building the levees to build houses, and then not pay attention to the experts telling and predicting that this would happen one day.

The other "man-made" part of Katrina was the arrogance of the leaders not bringing in the buses to get the people out of town until it was way too late.

It was a combined disaster - one part without the others wouldn't have been so horrific.

The formation of the hurricane was mady by nature. However, hurricanes gather strength in the warm water. A popular theory is that due to the Earth getting hotter every year, it in turn keeps the water warmer, which is gasoline for a spinning hurricane, expecially one that is just sitting there.

As far as the other people thinking it was made to destroy gay people or casinos...you are just fools.

Well in regards to the damage to New Orleans Yes it was. The Hurricane actually hit Gulf port/Biloxy MS. The damage in New Orleans was caused by incompetent, corruption and fraud. The took monies that was supposed to reinforce the levies and built a casino. They had 5 days notice to evacuate. They had tons of city and school buses available. They threw the dice and lost. The governor was so far over her head it was unbelievable. She and the Mayor obviously had a difference of opinion on things. She held up FEMA, Red Cross and the LA Natl Guard. So yes, the failure was man made in New Orleans.

No. Hurricane = natural disaster. It's one of the classic examples of a natural disaster. HOWEVER, there was alot that the US government could have done to reduce the harm of the hurricane and chose not to do (and then lied about later).

3 Mile Island was a man made disaster. Unless you know of some vast government conspiracy that hasn't made it to the reliable news sources yet Katrina was still an act of nature.

Literally, no. Figurativly, I guess you could say that. What made Katrina so devastating was man's lack of respect and understanding of what nature can do. Everyone knew what the worst that could happen was, but no one figured it would happen. I blame that on the media. Like the bo who cried wolf the media sensationalizes so much that people dont believe them anymore.

Mankind is still trying to figure out the behavior of wind, so there is no definite answer to that question. Hurricanes occurred long before we existed, but the **** we are doing to this World has to have some consequences...

You sound quite a bit like a moron. Are you seriously asking a group of reasonably well-educated people if they think that a hurricane was man-made?

The level of dumbness of some individuals ceases to amaze me.

Do you actually believe a hurricane is man-made? You better lay off the narcotics.
