All stories and legends have a basis in fact. Most if not all of the varied creatures in myth and legend are found in every culture of the world. Most of those cultures never having contact until the last 100-150 years. The legends have been around and thriving for thousands of years. If there is no basis then is all the world simply insane or is there something more to it something that the rational mind refuses to comprehend or admit to?

Evidently, I wasn't clear, the question is philosophical.
Yes there was contact before the 100-150 year range I gave but it was very limited and a lot of those having contact never made it home again.
Everyone is so quick to dismiss the old stories as tall tells and leave it at that. What ever happened to curiosity? To looking at something and disecting it to it's very core?
You all use things every day that you can't see, feel, smell, hear or taste. Does that make them any less real?
I have no proof that any of these creatures are real, only the recorded history and legends as they were handed down through the milleniums since man first walked upright. All I have are the suppositions and beliefs that came before me!
Do you have anything more?
An old chinese lady once told me "everything in life is an experiment;each one yielding some knowledge". If your mind is closed to possibilities, to what if, there's no experiment. No experiment; no knowledge. No knowledge no mankind!!

No body is sure. Most people are afraid to admit the possibility of the unknown. I believe in everything in one form or another, for exactly the reasons you have stated.

We have to take into accout the ergot factor, in the late summer food was sometimes hard to come by, as most of the harvest was not ready, and the wheat from the previous one was running low, a damp summer would proliferate the growth of a mould on the flour called ergot, which has some pretty startling hallucenogenic effects, hence the term "summer madness" imagine walking home from the fields or whatever, with a good amount of ergot in you, shadows could turn into anything..

Also as far as we know, anyone who had a severe disability, or some kind of disfigurement would probably be shunned by his family and the village, these folk lived more or less wild, and were looked on as "abominations" there are your demons.

But many things could have lived in forests or isolated areas without ever bieng seen, in the middle ages the population of the UK was just over one million people, nowhere near enough to cover the whole land!

Some legends are stories made up by humans with less forms of entertainment then we have today, others are misunderstandings and misinterpretations, or made up stories, of things humans didn't understand.

I.e. Manatees were thought to be mermaids. Some groups of humans HAVE drank blood...demons may be just all the things (or people's fears...) that go bump in the night and explanations for sicknesses of the mind that "posses" people. Some monsters may have been thought up when people discovered the remains of large animals that existed millions of years ago... And so on...

I believe there are demons like there are angels, but as for the monsters like big foot or lock ness are not real. There would be dead bodies found, or fecal matter, or maybe even dens or nests. None of these have been found. And as we all know,,, all living things must die, poop,or sleep and breed. As for the vampires, maybe this was something real, like a disease long ago or maybe these stories started from people who were cannibals and these stories were how they were viewed.

You're wrong. There has been many contacts (trading) between Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas through the ages.

One of the most likely being stories. I would think good ghost stories would be top. Everyone enjoys a good scare around the fire.

That being said....Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Where's yours?

The world is full of young people who claim to be vampires. The original 'vampire' was called such because of his thirst for the blood of the innocents. There are monsters in every jail cell in the world. And, as for demons, they are all over the place. They are the devil's advocates and they do all they can to get you to do the things you are not supposed to do or make your life miserable.

I have never seen any of the above but then again I am a born again Christian...evil things tend to stay away from the light. Having Christ in my heart scares evil things....."Greater is He that is in me than he who is in the world." Besides, I have authority over such evil. By calling on the name of Jesus, and by His blood no evil thing can touch me. Unless the Father ordains it, (God's will) then evil things will stay far away.

So something moved in the bushes, it is dark, your ancestors peer into to gloom trying to make out the eerie shape , what is it....
A fluffy little rabbit?
Or a Demon or a monster from the pits of Hell?

well, i think those creatures are real. simply because no one believes in them. if someone came up to you and said, "hi, i am a vampire, a true blood sucking vampire and if you would like, i can turn u and u will live forever." you would laugh at them!! but yes, i love your question and have noticed these things myself.

No,there is evil in the world, but it is in the hearts of men;
I agree with Mia, if you have God in your life, no evil thing
can touch you, evil spirits exist, as God says they do,but
staying away from ouija boards, mediums, voodoo and the
like, will keep you safe.
