Now wait, I'm not asking what you think is wrong with being gay, intelligent folks understand there's a difference. The question is, since some people ARE gay (and who would claim to be if they were not), why would letting them promise to love each other (and no one else) be a bad thing? Isn't the problem most people have with gays that they sleep around and spread disease? Well, then wouldn't having them in comitted relationships make you feel better about it? Do we really think that if we persecute these folks long enough they will all turn normal? That's ignorant. Again, I am not justifying any lifestyle, just asking clarification for whay the marriage objection is.

Add-on: If your point is that it is very bad, would you support some law to imprison gays and lesbians?

I'm not gay, but I don't understand why reasonable think that gay marriage is that big of a deal. I've been married for almost 10 years and I don't understand what effect this would have on my wife and I.

Not a religious union, but a legal one. I don't want to challenge anyone's religious tolerance. If you feel it's not acceptable in your faith, so be it, but that's not the question. Lots of people are married by judges and ship captains and no one says boo to that.

Let me answer this from the perspective of a gay, male, conservative, Christian view. First of all, in answer to one of the answers on this question that states God detests queers. God detests all mankind, gay, straight or lesbian because all are sinners and there is only one unforgivable sin and that is to believe God is under Satans control. That is the only sin above all others. Every man and women is a sinner because they were born in sin, it is the nature of man. Ergo, Christ came to pay the price for our sins so that those who believe in him shall have ever lasting life. Matthew 7:1-4 - Judge not that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged: and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brothers eye but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, let me remove the speck from your eye, and look , a plank is in your own eye? Luke 9:55-56 - But he turned and rebuked them, and said. You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them. And they went to another village.
OK - enough of the mini-serman - I say go with civil unions that have the same rights and privelages as marriage. Let the straight people have marriage and let us have the same thing just called some thing else. It is a small compromise and who cares what it is called if it is the same? If you care so much that it is called marriage you are more interested in the fight rather then the result. Civil Unions with the same rights and privalges as marriage will be a great thing! Don't get caught up on the fight rather then a result. Let's not take marriage from the straight people and cause grief, lets go for civil Unions that are the same as marriage!

Well if you allow gays to marry the people they love, then suddenly the world will stop spinning and everyone will fly off into space and God will come down and spit fire from his butt burning everyone and everthing to a crisp. And then those that are left will be able to marry horses and carp and a million other animals that people are just beating down the doors of the county courthouse to marry...

So yeah, there is nothing at all wrong with gay marriage. Just a bunch of bigots wanting to think they are better than people who only want to live life as promised in the Declaration of Independence.

But of course, if you let gay men marry, all the straight guys are going to want a homo of their own and divorce their wives to get one.

I am not gay either but I feel that if there is love between two people, then what's the problem???? Getting married is a good thing when you fall in love and you know this is the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. It may not last, but neither do opposite gender couples marriages. People grow apart some times.

For those who oppose gay marriage, can you think of any other answer other than "the bible says", "God says" and/or its just sick or some other lame insult. Personally, how does it affect your life. If a man and a man marry in Pennsylvania and you live in Texas please answer how this will affect you personally. Is there a reasonalbe and intelligent answer for those who oppose it? Or are you a brain washed part of the flock. Who knows?

There are SO many other issues to deal with in this country. For those fighting to keep the preservation of a "traditional" marriage,
turn your attention to more pressing issues. Take your energy and do some good with it. I have listed a few to get you started.
Pedophile priests (oh no, what is that?) Must of been that devil?
Child abuse and neglect (Never by our fellow christian brothers and sisters, lol)
Animal abuse and neglect (again, what is the excuse)
Overpopulated orphanages, lack of affordable adoption options, lack of decent foster care. (who threw all these kids out anyway?)
Lack of affordable medical insurance in this country
The working poor and how those people cannot feed their families
Sad, depressed, lonely, hurt, desperate, and beaten life walks this earth. There are millions of people already feeling this way. As a christian, why try to make more of them?

Go do something good, make a difference in someone's life by helping, not hurting. Pay attention to important things, people in love is nothing to bash. I think those opposed only wish they were as happy and as strong in love to actually fight for it.

Divorce rate is 50% or more now. We have reality shows like who wants to marry a millionaire, the bachelor and I know there are others. Marriage isn't sacred in this country. Its a billion dollar industry. Look at the divorce attorneys, cost of court, the cost of weddings, the alimony payments. Give me a break!

The question isn't about being gay. It is clearly stated in the Bible that men will not lay down with men and women will not lay down with women. This is something that is detestable to God and he does not xondone it. Marriage is a holy union that is to be taken very seriously and is done in the eyes of God. Why would it be ok for them to get married in front of God if he detests that. This gay marriage and all the questions of homosexuality is just another tool of satan's to seperate God's children from Him. Do not be misled by him. Believe me when I say that I am not a gay basher, I don't believe that they spread diseases either. I know some very kind and respectable gay people. But it's not natural. If it was God would not clearly state in the Bible that He is apposed to it. Not only that, but if it was intended for gay people to be married and be a natural thing then they would be able to procreate, would they not?

There is not anything incorrect with homosexual marriage, it's the identical because the heterosexual marriage. If each events to a homosexual marriage experience their union and their is love among them, there may be most likely not anything incorrect with it. I am obviously in pursuance of happiness for every person for so long as such happiness does no longer harm different peoples' rights and happiness.

I agree with you there. Many of the complaints against gay people are addressed by marriage. Hopefully, if allowed to marry gay couples would settle down, be financially responsbile, be monogamous (at least as much as straight married people are) and hold family and community values to be important.

Sounds good to me!

I am so glad and i love the fact that you are a straight married man who supports gay marriage. I wish my father was just like you that way it would be much easier to come out to him.

Nothing. I'm straight and I'm all for it. The real problem is all those red state dip$hits. I really wish the South would rise again so we could be rid of those overweight, fried-Oreo-eating hillbillies once and for all.

You hear that, South? Screw you!

Oh, and screw that Tessababyboo nimrod below, too!

Just the idea that they MUST call it marriage so as not to hurt their feelings. If you want to poke llamas, more power to you. But don't pretend that you're a typical citizen and demand insurance and marriage rights.
