Leaves have such extraordinary texture and detail that when highlighted, make for something calming and beautiful.
I like to user a brayer http://www.misterart.com/store/view/001/group_id/453/Speedball-Rubber-Brayer.htm to gently roll paint onto the backside of a leaf, the side with more texture.
I use high-quality acid-free paper and when the leaf is covered in a thin layer of paint, I gently press the leaf on to the paper. You can use groupings of small leaves on one piece or perhaps a large fern leaf for something bolder. Creativity comes with choices of paint color, paper color and the way you compose your leaves on the paper.
It can be a nice way to remember your trip, perhaps making a collage of all types of found leaves.

Use them as a stencil of sorts. Buy several cans of spray paint and a large piece of art paper. Lay some of the leaves on the paper and spray. move them and add others in a different pattern and spray again. Do this several times till you have a nice piece of art. Then throw the leaves away. Do this on the ground.

You can lay leaves on black construction paper or another dark paper and lay them in the sunlight. After a day in the sun, check for fading of the paper that is exposed. They can be arranged differently and when the fading is finished the paper showing the leaves "shadows" can be framed or laminated to be used for different things. You can press the leaves and mount them with their scientific names written in caligraphy for a specimen collage, then frame them for display. Good luck!

This site is FANTASTIC. have fun! Also, you can collect the different kinds of leaves, preserve them by spraying each side with a clear spray, place in a journal, and write about the discovery.
