Yes, be it drugs, tobacco, alcohol, sugar, caffeine, pain, stealing, killing, abusing, games, love, dangerous living, and etc... the list goes on. Anything not done in moderation is liable to become an addiction if not carefully monitored. As the body builds a resistance to whatever u abusing, u will need more to sustain the good feeling u will get. For example.. a teen rides a bicycle, gets a thrill from riding it the first time. Then the teen finds it mundane, does tricks and speeds on the bicycles to get a thrill ( more dangerous to get a somewhat same thrill) Eventually teen might get a motorbike... same thrill to riding a motorbike for the first time as like riding the bicycle for the first time but note bigger bike and it may keep upgrading to bigger bike or even to a car. It may upgrade to speeding or racing ... an addiction to adrenalin

Yes. In a world that demands that people be perfect and normal, people often feel inadequate. Reality starts to become a place of misery in which you must escape, be that into television, hallucinogens, depressants, or even just sex. Most people start using these things simply because they make them happy, but as they develop a tolerance they need more and more. This in turn causes them to lose time they don't have anyway making them even more unhappy and searching that much more voraciously.

I'm addicted to breathing. If I don't, I'll pass out. Deprived of it for long enough, I will die. I tried to quit, but I just didn't have the strength to stop breathing for very long.
