In a normal, healthy pregnancy - you should only receive one ultrasound. This is what's considered medically necessary. The techs take all the measurements, confirm a closer due date, and check for abnormalities. This is usually done around 20 weeks. If it's not medically necessary (no abnormalities/multiples), to have another ultrasound, then another one isn't ordered. And if the insurance co only pays for one, then one is all the clinic is going to do!
Some people have had more than one ultrasound. In most cases, it's because they went somewhere else to have it done, and paid for it out of their own pocket. Most places that do it for fun, do it 3D & 4D, and you can select a pricing package. I picked mine from baby preview (http://www.babypreview.com) for around $200.

I'm one of the lucky ones, my OB/GYN has a portable ultrasound in his office. I've had ultrasounds every visit, since my first prenatal exam.
Be glad that you have a healthy pregnancy & don't need another ultrasound. Your memories of your baby will be much more precious later - after she's born.

Not sure where you're from, but in the U.S., most insurance companies will pay for only one (the one done around 20 weeks). If your doctor has no reason to be concerned, you probably won't have another one. If he saw something on your first ultrasound that concerned him, or you're not measuring correctly at your upcoming prenatal visits (too large, too small) he may order another one. Also, I think high risk pregnancies require more ultrasounds as a rule. If nothing is wrong with you or your baby, chances are you'll only get one.

If the doctors feel that something might be wrong with the baby they'll give you another one. But, normally you only get 2. I got one at 16 weeks then another a month before I was due. Good luck with your pregnancy. Also they say ultrasounds are really good for the baby because of the sound waves

I would recommend only having an ultrasound if you think there's a problem. There are a lot of studies about the potential dangers of ultrasound in unborn babies, and it's actually never been proven safe. It's been shown in studies that the ultrasound rays cause microscopic bubbles in the baby's cellular structure. No one knows for sure what these bubbles can cause in the future, but why risk it when it's your baby's health on the line? By the way, x-rays used to be commonly thought of as safe for babies too - and now look what we know!

I only got 1 during my pregnancy. Most doctor will do more if they feel they need to. Some doctor will do 2, one in the beginning and 1 in the middle like the one you just had. Don't look for them to do anymore.
