It's a 2 year degree (if u go full time). A 4 year degree is a bachelors degree. Most jobs require a bachelor's degree. Most people that get an associates degree then go on to get their bachelor's degree since they are 1/2 way done already. Community colleges are the only ones typically to give associates degrees. To get a bachelor's deg., you have to go to an upper level college or univeristy.

A student attending a Junior College, will graduate with an Associates Degree. A Junior College only offers a two-year college program. There are some private colleges, that ONLY offer a two-year program.
A four-year program is offered at universities.

An associate degree is a 2 year degree in your field of endeavor. It is usually obtained from a junior college or community college. I have an associate's degree in applied science. This allowed me to sit for boards to be a registered nurse.

After you graduate high school, or get your GED...
the first two years of college you will get you associate's degree, if you decide to keep going for 2 years additional it is called your bachelors, then comes masters, and your doctrate. Associates it the starter's degree. Most colleges have you take core classes like your math, science, lit, and ss, etc.
