It amazes me that until now, the liberals in this country have not been big supporters of Israel. Usually the non-Jewish liberals tend to sympathize with the Palestinians. Are they just looking to keep their (mostly) liberal Jewish base appeased in an important election year by pandering to them just this once?

BTW...I am not suggesting that mainstream Democrats don't support Israel. I AM wondering how come the MOST LIBERAL amongst them seem to have flipped from previous positions.

Politicians are the same everywhere...they dont have permanent friends only permanent interests (namely the political office and the money and power that comes with it).

Its natural for any politician anywhere in the world to switch positions and do anything "weird" in an important issue if it will endear them to a particular segment of a nation's population, which they think will give them an edge in elections. This goes from giving subsidies for all sorts of junk, giving dole-outs to the poor and playing to the interests of particular social, ethnic-religious, economic and political groups.

I am not saying of course that all politicians who switch sides are like this, but those who do so out of their personal convictions are really rare...

What an idiot, why is it pandering to support a country that is defending itself. Unlike you repuke's that support a war that was started for no good reason. What a joke you repuglicans are, a bad joke.
