If you're using the Milton Bradley ones... pssh. Fuhgettaboutit. It won't work for squat. Even if you're in a group of people, it won't work. One or more of the people in the group will be maliciously moving the pointer around so it'll "freak you out." :-/
However, when using a real Ouija board, it'll work- even when used alone.
I'll tell you though- there's an incredibly high chance that you'll never even SEE a real Ouija board in your lifetime. Of all the real talking boards out there, there's only about 200 - 250 left, of which I own 7. The Druids and ancient Celts created a series of talking boards which were meant to attract entities of your choice. Some were even meant for "special purposes." These boards were made of some pretty crazy materials...
Materials that MY Ouija boards are made of:
1) Human bones
2) Human skin... (I know... it's disturbing...)
3) Solid gold plating (even the pointer...)
4) Gray stone
5) Another gray stone one...
6) Wood (petrified...? It's incredibly preserved...)
7) Another wooden one...
These are the materials my boards are made of... and they work when used alone. If you ever come across a real Ouija board (which you'll be able to tell... trust me...) you'll know its real not by its looks, but you'll start feeling and seeing things you shouldn't see. You'll be able to use it by yourself, but be warned: misuse of it can get you posessed or worse. :-/
But I have nothin' to worry about! :-D

If you doubt it will reflect on the board, try it at the full moon, a candle burning, some insence, a prayer of your choice then sit confortably in loose clothing ,meditate and ask,you should not be disturbed doing this, have a piece of white paper ready to write , and no more than 20 minutes to try , if nothing ,put away and try again ,eventually it will open up. Be serous and silent in your quest. Good reading.

Usually you do them in groups, that's the fun with a Ouija board is that no one knows who is actually moving it, if it is someone in the group or a "spirit" or something. It's like playing Twister by yourself, where's the fun in that?

The reason it didnt work for you that probably you are not ready yet, get your inner channels clear and ready for energies to flow through, meditate often, ask for divine guidance in this matter, if you are seeking to reach out to the divine through this, that you can do better through your own heart. God is always ready to talk to people who want to talk to Him, there is no big science or mystery behind it, you just need to talk to him bad enough.

It depends. It's not recommended you use them though... all kind of spirits, some with malicious intentions can come through, so don't try...
