I'm told our new bank manager is a friend of Dorothy. Is it important for me to network her?

Networking is a really important tool, and it is important to get your name out to as many as possible, but it is not the only tool. A tru pro can use all the sales tools at once to maximim advantage.

When I first started working, that was exactly what I was told: "It's not what you do, it's who you know."

It has been proved true.

Being an idiot, I have not gone out of my way to 'network' or 'kiss-***'... Hence my pathetic career; technical skills will only get you so far.

Just one thing, if you want to play this game, get to know the manager via Dorothy; Dorothy would be a means to an end, not an end. So network with Dorothy, but push her towards including you in the circle with the manager.

A sad reality of our times....It is who you know that will help you get ahead.

That can get you in a lot of doors where your abilities can shine.

Without that help, you may never get the chance to excel.

Good luck.
