Stiff.

I just rode down the Indiana Toll Road (*not* Turnpike), and prices were something like 3.20 at the BPs further east and 3.26 at the Mobils further west.

Just off the road, though, one can save some serious scratch, sometimes to the tune of 30 cents per gallon.

If you're headed out of Chicago, one of the best tricks is to take Cline Avenue, the first exit past the fifty-cent toll, to Columbus Ave. It's the Gary riverboat exit. There's a Speedway which usually has reasonable gas prices, and with a rewards card you can get $50 on a gas card for $49, as well as a few extra cents off each gallon.

Nicest thing is that Cline Ave reconnects with I-90, so you're not going way the hell outta your way.

On the ticket portion of the toll road, most exits have truck stops or travel plazas. I prefer Flying J, since they seem to have lower prices, but in general, dodge the BPs and Mobils and other big names for the Flying Js and Pilots.

It might depend on what part of the state your in. I think there is close to a 20cent per gallon difference within 1 1/2 hour driving distance.
