He sure was and a true friend of the US, too! He fought (and lost) the war against Iran, which by all right would have been the war of the US!
The problem in his own country was that the Shiites in the South and the Kurds in the North both wanted to separate from Iraq and have an independent state of their own.
Saddam Hussein is now charged in court for the allegation, that he may be responsible for the death of a few hundred Kurds. In Turkey thousands of Kurds died under the hands of the Turks, but there it is justified, because the Turks are defending their territory? What's the big difference?
Well, the difference is that the Turks are a member of Nato and Saddam Hussein was not!

Why are the Republicans keeping Saddam alive right now? He should have been given to the Iraqi people a long time ago if Iraq is really safe and secure with it's new government inside the green zone. They would have put him to death.

His tactics are Republican, outlawing dissent, started wars but failed them, claims to be religous but does'nt follow the word of his religion, spent money on himself instead of his people, ruled the country under fear, there is probably a few others but I can't think of any more.

Yep

Especially when he gased the Kurds because they were traitors who had been helping Iran during the period that Iran and Iraq were at war. Could you imagine what Bush would do if say one of our states was found to be helping Osama? OMG he would nuke the whole state.

He sure had the support of the Republicans when he was fighting Iraq. Donald Rumsfeld even sold him weapons.
