I know I am going to be raked over the coals for this. How long are Whites suppose to say were sorry that blacks were slaves . It has been 140 years since slaveryand 50 years since civil rights. Blacks (not all) seem like they would rather work to blame Whites rather then work to improve their lifes. I know I am generalizing, but when you listen to the Jessie Jacksons and Al Sharptons (the so called leaders of the Black movement) of the world all I hear is give me and feel sorry for me and don't forget to feel guilty. My family history doesn't start in this country till the 1900's. Either way when is enough, enough. When is it time to stop asking (demanding ) a hand out. OK thats my say, WHATS YOURS

I was waiting for someone to bring up reperations
OK tell you what you prove your family was a slave and prove my family was here at the same time. I won't ask you to prove my family owned any slave just the simple fact that they were here. Why should the Federal govt apo;igize for when they didn't do it. The gov't put the Japanese in camps thats why the gov't said it ws sorry.

I have proof that my ancestors were slaves. I even know the plantation in which they worked. Maybe I should send them a letter demanding that I be given compensation on behalf of my ancestors.

What do you think about this?

“Disclosure laws have prompted companies including health provider Aetna Inc. and financiers Lehman Brothers and Wachovia Corp. to apologize for slavery ties. After JPMorgan Chase reported that two of its predecessor banks owned more than 1,200 Louisiana slaves taken as collateral in the 1800s, the bank established a $5 million scholarship fund for Louisiana blacks.”

Are you upset or in disagreement about that? That was from this article: http://www.lacrossetribune.com/articles/2006/07/10/news/1reps_0710.txt

Actually, I really agree with you for the most part. Pumping money into people won’t necessary solve their problems and make them better people. Many opportunities already exist for everyone to get ahead if they are willing to work for it. Yes, racism still exists and will always. Black people can thrive through education, education, education, and hard work, sacrifice, and determination. All of which are available today.

I personally do not want a thing from that old lady who owns the plantation. She will die and pass it on to her son and so on, a so on. I know that I can have my own huge estate if I wanted it, for everything is in reach to those that really work for it.

Having worked hard for two college degrees, and worked hard to be able to support myself and get the thing I want in life, I suppose I would feel a little pissed if money was just given to people who did nothing to earn it. Welfare is fine as a temporary thing, but I know people who use it as a way of life. Reparations should not be just about money, it should be about something greater such as a training program for poor and deprived students to teach them life skill. That is what is lacking. These kids are being raised without a sense of responsibility but a sense of entitlement. No amount of reparations is going to change that dynamic unless is comes in the form of man-to-man mentoring.

First of all there has been no official statement from the United States Government issuing a formal apology! To answer your question about blacks complaining. I'll put it to you like this... If you do not give a nation the means of supporting it's self it is doomed to fail! Russia was given land, and the means! American was giving the money, stole the land, and the means! So forth and so own. Do you actually know what forty acres, and a mule could have done for a black family back then. I don't even know why I am really answering this question for you..? Probably to open you up to the light... Maybe it would give you some go to actually read the many, many books of how black people were and are being disenfranchised. Anyway, you say your family came over here in the 1900's??? hmm maybe true... How do you really know that? The blood-line has been mixing over the years, so you are much as Americans as the Natives. I can't answer for ever black person or descendant of a slave-master. But I will say this... REPARATIONS. If you get tired of the whining dog in the backyard barking. Do you not go comfort it, nurture it, give it what it needs to substain it? Give the black people what they need!!! Japanese got it, Mexicans will have it. What about the Blacks? Yes black people are free from slavery. But until they are free from there in-bondage, they will never be free... The Black people are not looking for a handout, they are looking for what is owed! Slaves do not get paid, Black Americans are not slaves! You are right they should demand to get paid! Their pay check is over 400 years overdue...

I totally agree with Milo. I hate when some white people (and don't tell me I'm just one of those stereotypical black people because I am part WHITE and part black) generalize like this and say, "Gosh, why can't black people just forget about slavery and move on?" Well, because it was a HORRIBLE time period that blacks had to endure, some for their whole lives. And some white people don't understand this because the majority of their people have never experienced anything like this. This goes for the same reason the Jews have Holocaust Museums: because their people were discriminated against and they want to learn about their history and past. Most black people KNOW that whites today did not contribute to the terrible times of slavery, but even today, they are still being judged simply because they are black, more so than whites (as they are the biggest and most accepted race in the world).

The neighborhood enthusiasts within the Charlotte subject developed the All-Star occasion. Charlotte is the hub of NASCAR. It's in which it belongs. Most of the drivers have commonly stated they choose to maintain the All-Star occasion in Charlotte. They vociferously antagonistic NEXTEL's wish to transport the occasion to Richmond, their HQ town. When the Hall of Fame opens, obviously the induction cermonies will probably be tied to the All Star occasion. The enthusiasts within the Charlotte subject mark their calender for the occasion each and every yr. The Carolinas have already been pressured to give up five Cup dates. Enough already. The open week earlier than the World six hundred, allows for the All-Star occasion to face by myself because it must in no way be run as a partner race to a Cup Event. The All-Star occasion belongs within the center of NASCAR nation. You can attempt to keep an All-Star occasion someplace else, however that would possibly not quit us from nonetheless preserving the truly one. Think approximately this. For the All-Star occasion the groups use special automobiles than they run within the six hundred. They actually have a backup within the storage. If anything occurs to each automobiles earlier than the Event, one more automobile is a brief force away. If the race have been held as a partner occasion in a few far away neighborhood, the groups could must shipping four automobiles consistent with workforce. If anything occurs to each All Star automobiles, what are you going to do, use your important or again-up elements race automobile?

I NEED TO ASK YOU A QUESTION.
DO YOU EVER WONDER WHY A BLACK PERSON WOULD HAVE THE LAST NAME:O'DAY,JACKSON,GOODMEN
,WRIGHT?
DO THOSE SOUND AFRICAN TO YOU?
NO BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT.
THAT'S HOW A PERSON CAN KNOW IF THEIR FAMILY WAS IN SLAVERY.
95% OF AFRICAN AMERICANS DON'T KNOW THEIR AFRICAN LAST NAMES OR WHAT PART OF AFRICA THEY ARE FROM.
I'M SURE YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR ANCESTORS ARE FROM AND ARE PROUD OF THEM(AS YOU SHOULD BE)
BUT 95%OF US DON'T.
I FOUND OUT 5 YRS AGO THAT MY FAMILY GOT THEIR LAST NAME IN THE 15TH CENTURY.
IT'S AN ENGLISH LAST NAME.

SURE SOME BLACKS WANT A HANDOUT BUT I DON'T.
I WORK VERY HARD FOR MY MONEY.
DO I HATE WHITES?
NO
DO I BLAME THE WHITES OF TODAY FOR SLAVERY?
NO.

BUT YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THE ANGER.
IMAGINE IF YOUR PEOPLE WERE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEIR LAND,KILLED,TOTURED AND RAPED.
TREATED LIKE AN ANIMAL.
IMAGINE THAT FOR 400YRS.
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN ROOTS OR AMISTAD?
IF YOU HAVE IMAGINE THAT GOING ON FOR 4HUNDRED YEARS.
GO TO THE LIBRARY AND READ ABOUT IT.
IT WILL SHOCK AND DISTURB YOU.

IT'S WEIRD BECAUSE WHEN JEWISH PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST EVERYONE ENCOURAGES THEM TO TELL THEIR STORY.
AND ALOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THAT THERE WAS A BLACK HOLOCAUST AS WELL.

HONESTLY THERE WOULD BE NO AMOUNT OF MONEY TO MAKE UP FOR THE HORRORS OF SLAVERY.
I PERSONALLY WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT PART OF AFRICA I COME FROM THEN TO HAVE MONEY.
HAVING AN IDENTITY IS PRICELESS.

To be fair, African-Americans should have never been treated in such a manner, but it's hard to move on in this country if we constantly live in the past. We have equal rights for all races and affirmative action that also helps incorporate the minority cultures in the job force. As a Native American I don't feel honestly that any race should reap reparations for past deeds. We don't get our land, family or monies in exchange for that lands and property that was taken, why should African Americans or Asian Americans or any other race receive them ? You have to get up, wipe your knees off and start over again. No pity for anyone on this topic. Pity will never get you anywhere.

People will move on when the legacy of slavery is truly gone. Black people in America still face prejudice and bigotry, and living standards, life expectancy, infant mortality etc are all lower amongst black people. Until these inequalities and intolerances are addressed the tension and mistrust from both sides will continue to feed off itself.

It's your burden. Deal with it. We carried this country on our backs for hundreds of years for free labor, don't whine because its your turn.
BTW, I do not agree 100% w/ Jesse or Al, but then that's the great thing about Our country & our civil rights. Also, regardless of what year your family came, you still profitted from it.

as a black man i dont blame you or want guilt money from you..
STOP generalizing black people as 1 being..
as the caveman in the commercial says "do a little research"
just because you are white dosen't mean you have a birthright to sit in judgement..
your mind is extremely closed..think deeper than color alone..
i feel sorry for you..
