Why do people get upset when some think they should know english here in the United States?

I just think that once people get over here, and if they plan to stay, they should learn English. I dont care what color or where they came from. Half the places I go they put things in spanish and english. Or if i call a company i am directed to press one for enlgish. I shouldnt have to. Its not that big a deal but come on. Last week a buddy of mine was in Walmart. He attempted to ask a woman where something was and she just mumbled something in spanish and kept walking. Come the hell on, thats just rediculous.

I agree. If you come to this country and plan to stay then learn our language. If I went to Russia I wouldn't expect the whole country to change their ways to appease me, no, I would learn Russian! The problem is everyone is so afraid of offending someone over something petty and meaningless, that the spineless government is bending over backwards to please everyone and stripping its own citizens of their own rights.

Exactly, this "we are multicultural and speak different languages" thing is getting out-of-hand. It was no different for our family members who came over and had to learn English to survive back in the day. It's necessary to succeed and keep everything stable, not only for personal reasons but for the nation in general. People need to stop being lazy and make an effort. In no way is this a racial issue because it is expected of all immigrants today just as it was when thousands of Germans, etc. came over years ago. It just isn't realistic or good for the USA to have some speaking Spanish, some speaking English, some Russian, German, Chinese, etc. English is the simple solution for this nation of immigrants.

There have continually been groups within the United States and different international locations in which immigrants from a detailed nation can cross and reside with no need to be trained the countrywide language. In big China-cities it's viable for immigrants to reside their lives with out interacting with humans who do not talk Chinese. If a trouble come up in which English is wanted (i.e. a police research) there are humans locally who will translate. When my grand-mom moved to Canada she learnt English or even received mad at different German ladies who spoke German. Many of my top-tuition academics have been in poor health of listening to humans talk overseas languages. That mentioned, I suppose you are over-reacting. $seventy five warnings and $250 fines are a foul proposal. It might make immigrants think threatened, even folks that talk excellent English. Telling humans they can not talk their local language is a best insult that might make hundreds of thousands think unwelcome. Also, what if the police began giving fines to scholars who're working towards a talk in one other language for tuition? I do not even what to grasp what you suppose approximately the Spanish variant of the U.S. countrywide anthem.

Most Americans don`t even speak English so why insist on immigrants learning it too ? LOL

because they are idiots, but also when you go to different countries that dont speak english, they try to compensate by putting signs in english also, but like you said if you plan on living in the U.S. you should plan on learning english
