Yes, I did 5 yrs ago. I used to work in Cincinnati, OH and then I got a new job in Stamford, CT. I got the new job before moving (which is always the better way to go) and the company paid for relocation. Relo policies differ by company, but for me, they paid to move all my stuff (packing & unpacking) + 1 extra month salary (for moving hassles) + cost of living adjustment for rent for 2 years.

I'm not sure if that was the type of info you were looking for. As with any move, it's time consuming & stressful. And, of course, a few things break. But no major problems. Unfortunately, my bedding got left behind in Cincinnati, but the company paid to replace it w/ new bedding, and my new stuff was much nicer than my old stuff (so that was another win).

They say that moving & starting a new job can be 2 of the most stressful things in life. My advice is to try to avoid doing both at the same time. When I made this move 5 years ago, I moved BEFORE I started the new job (and ensured I had enough time to get my head straight). 3 yrs later I got a new job & then moved 30 mins away (I had to pay for everything that time). Unfortunately, I had to move 2 months after I started my new job, and that was not the best situation for me personally.

Good luck w/ the move & the new job. It's exciting.

And, don't forget when you get your new phone # to go to donotcall.gov, so you can reduce # of telemarketing calls.

Yes our family has. Detroit to Cleveland and then back again. We never considered a job that did not pay relocation costs, since this was for an upper management job and we were moving a whole family. However our son relocated from Illinois to Washington D.C. into a beginning job out of collage. He had to take the hit for all the cost of relocating, but he is pretty good at finding and making new friends so for 4 months he stayed at a hostel, with his new found friends and an even with an old friend who was was in town for 6 weeks with a musical. Usually you will have to pay the cost for the first interview. You have to be adventurous to relocate to a place that you have no previous connection. So how successful your move will be is up to you.
