Any shape will have INTERNAL angles that
when summed will equal (n-2)x180

So for a shape with 6 sides (hexagon):
Internal angles add up to : (6-2)x180 = 720

Now if you divide that by the number of angles = 720/6=120 degrees for each internal angle....

Now to know what the external angle is: you just subtract the internal angle from 360, in other words: 360-120 = 240 for each external angle....

NOTE: If we define exterior angle to be the angle formed when you extend one of the sides of the hexagon, then the correct answer is 60 degrees. The internal angles measure 120, and the exterior angles measure 180-120 = 60 degrees

Draw lines from the center to the corners of the hexagon. The angles around the center are 60 degrees. The triangles are isoceles. Therefore the angles of the triangles at the corners are each 180-2*60 = 60 degrees, so the triangles are all equilateral.

At each corner the interior angle is made up of two of the triangles' angles, so the interior angle is 120 degrees. The exterior angle is 360 - 120 or 240 degrees.

The mesurement of interior angle of a hexagon is 360/6 = 60 degree.
The exterior angle is than 360-60=300.

All units are in degrees.

Wow; these are all over the place! The first answer is the correct one: 360/6=60

The problem as I see it now is that we are interpreting "exterior angle" differently. Our high school geometry texts define it as an angle which is supplementary to an interior angle. In other words, you extend one side of the polygon to draw an exterior angle. We don't discuss angles over 180 degrees in Plane Geometry class.

I think the formula is 360/(number of sides) for exterior angles so the answer would be 60 degrees.
