Can you tell me what causes someone to be so wonderful, give all their love to you, be the best at what they do, show you the ability they have to give you the moon and stars-then snap....becoming verbally abusive to they point you are afraid for your life? To the point, you want to leave and leave every material possession you have behind and never go back? please answer seriously-i am worried, and i am not joking around. Thanks.

A lot of women (and men) think an abuser is some guy that comes home everyday and beats the crap out of his wife if dinner isn't on the table. Not so. Many abusive men are intelligent, charming, responsible... the kind of guy no one suspects. Just because he hasn't hit you (yet) or doesn't behave like this every day doesn't mean he's safe to be with or that he won't get worse.

Trust your instincts on this one, honey. That 'red flag' in your head isn't your imagination. No one should be afraid in their own home - that should be your safe-haven. No one should be afraid of the man they once trusted to love and protect them.

Be safe. Call a Woman's Hotline in your area and tell them what's been happening. They will help you do what you need to do.

I feel the same way about my husband! I think it stims from his childhood. He was badly beaten from his dad, then he had a past relationship where he was the one that got hurt. But sometimes he treats me like a piece of dirt. He says things to me that I will never forget and it hurts. But he will tell me that he is sorry and he did not mean it. Sometimes I do get afraid of what he would do to me or himself and we have three kids. He has not been the easiest person to live with lately and I fear there will be a big blow up soon!!!! The last time we got into a fight, he slashed all of my tires so i could not go anywhere, so I know how you feel!!! When you get some good advice. Let me know. Good luck too ya!!!

They usually learn it from seeing it when they are young. People with abusive personalities go through a cycle where they are really, really sweet and sensitive to your needs, then become abusive, only to become really sweet again. You need to get out, FAST before the verbal abuse becomes physical. Contact your local Battered Women's Hotline and they will help you.
