I refinished a clawfoot tub rescued from a fence row using an epoxy paint made for the job (found it at the local home improvement store). I followed the directions to the letter and got excellent results. It's not factory-perfect, but it's close enough that you have to be looking for the blemishes and brush strokes.

HVLP spray would give better results, but I don't have access to the equipment and didn't want to mess with cleanup. The most important part of the project is prep-work. Cut corners and you will be disappointed.

Epoxy paints give off some serious fumes. I was able to work outdoors. If you want to refinish something inside, make sure you have excellent ventilation and a good respirator with the right filters.

Are you sure you want to do this? Tub refinishing is a special trade done by professionals. To do a good job, you need extra hard coats of epoxy primer and paint. These professionals are trained to handle these kind of materials (they are strong and toxic) It is something similar to automotive painting. I saw a tub refinishing package at Home Depot but I did not try it. I have seen it done by professionals and I was convinced that I will leave it to them. They use HVLP spray (high volume low pressure) and you get a fresh, new looking tub. Cost? around $500.00 good luck!!

Can you reglaze your own tub??
i had a company do mine and paid $160.00...
you might want to check around and see how much it would cost to hire someone to do it for you.. After you figure how much the paint and just the sure PAIN in the A** it could be.. paying might not be such a bad idea!!
