I ask this because we want a boy for our next baby and knowing precise ovulation time is crucial. Problem is .... my wife checked her CM and its consistency indicated ovulation that day .. however ... while using the test pack 3 conscutive days previous to the CM check (up til CM day), the test showed negative.

The test only showed positive 3 days after the date that CM method indicated that she was supposed to ovulate. Bottomline ... the dates when she was supposed to ovulated were about 4-5 days different when she monitored using the two methods (of course they had to coincide).

Which goes back to my question .... which method should I rely on more to have a more accurate result on her ovulation date in thenext months? We plan to conceive by October (to have baby birthday 7-7-07 :) . Do we go with the 98% indicated success rate of the LH test pack (which says the female ovulates 12-24 hrs after positve result?) or the CM method. P.S. she also does the temperature thing.

If you're willing to spend a little more money, you should buy a fertility monitor. They're made by ClearBlue Easy. It's more precise than the sticks. But like I said, it's a lot more expensive. Check ebay for good buys on new ones. That's where I got mine.

I would use the Ovulation Test Kit. I think its more accurate; but it can't hurt to check CM also. After doing this several times & really getting to know her body, she may actually even be able to feel when she ovulates.

By the way, someone else mentioned about the 14th day... Ovulation is not always the 14th day of the cycle. Thats a common misconception. I usually don't ovulate until the 17-19th day of my cycle. Everyone is different.

The Ovulation tests are accurate. Once you see that LH surge line on the test, she should ovulate within 24 hours.
She could check her temperature to make sure this happend.

Good Luck to you!

In my experience, using the basal temperature AND the mucus method works the best, as they will cross-check each other. This method is especially effective because it not only tells you when you are ovulating, but also when you are not, which can come in handy later when you desire to have intercourse during non-fertile times.

These two techniques combined are collectively called "Natural Family Planning" and also the "Sympto-Thermal Method."

It's always good to have 2 signs to look at, I think, for added accuracy. Best of luck conceiving a baby, but don't be too disappointed if it's not a boy and not born on 7-7-07. God is still ultimately in control!

Ovulation kit 100%, CM can be very tricky and the temp changes all the time with the most minimal thing so trust your OPK. Go to this website so you can learn more about OPK's www.peonastick.com. And remember in an ovulation test BOTH lines have to be as dark for it to be a positive test, if you get one lighter than the other it is not a positive, but you can read all about ovulation on the website I have told you about. Good luck!

She can have fertile CM for days before and shortly after she ovulates. The LH test should narrow it down a little better. Taking her BBT is the best route to determine the exact day of ovulation. You can chart your BBT and all other methods for free at www.fertilityfriend.com

Good luck, and I hope you get your baby boy.
