Good press. That's it. Makes it look like the administration is doing something.
Remember, Shrub bases some of his international policy on the Book of Revelation - War in the 'Holy Land' could in his mind, bring back Jesus

To use up her Air Miles?
PLEASE -- it's CEASE fire, not sieze fire.
It's really not clear why C. Rice is being trotted around the world. Possibly to show how liberal GWB is. It's hard to take seriously the notion that she and Hilary are serious candidates as the first female presidents, but the might have some bearing on it too. Hilary has high visibility, and a long public record, C. Rice doesn't, so this is an attempt to imprint her on the public mind.
But that's being awfully cynical, isn't it?

Yes, she did go to Lebanon. Hezbollah will never agree to a cease fire. Perhaps the Lebanese government will. But then they'd have to be willing to put a halt to Hezbollah's terrorist activities inside Israel. Secretary Rice knows that a cease fire at this point would not last. It will take some time to get all parties to agree (if at all). I'm not sure a cease fire is possible. Only time will tell.

To convince people in the region that this entire mess is the fault of Hezbollah, not Israel. Dr. Rice is smart enough to know that a cease fire today does not mean real peace. If the stop firing today, they will resume tomorrow, and if that happens what is accomplished? Nothing.

She went to Israel to see if she compromise a cease-fire. But because Israel is our ally and Hezbollah attacked the Marine Corp. barracks way back in the day, better to let them duke it out. May Israel win.
