The Padres are cool. And very few people know guys like Ted Williams played for SD when we had a minor league franchise.
San DIego is rich in baseball history.
This year, the NL West is tight again -- and while the East Coast bias (and casual fans who don't know any better) rarely mentions San Diego, we enjoy our team.
The clubhouse is very close this year. Defense and bullpen are consistently good. Our new hitting coach has improved the team batting average by 30 points.
Tickets to the ballpark are among the cheapest in baseball ($5 -- anyone better?) And the weather is great.
And, unlike some cities which live, breath and die sports -- our fans, though knowledgeable, are very forgiving.
