well i found out from the last 3 baby showers i have attended that a lot of people tend to buy things like diaperbags and those little gift sets. get something different, though not very expensive, a bouncy chair, an umbrella stroller or one of those things that you use to carry the infant on your chest like its in a pouch, cant remember what its called. these all cost around 20$ or less depending on where you shop. You could also get a large gift basket, or even a baby tub and fill it with every day items that people normally dont think about getting before the baby is born like a package of daipers, wipes, infant tylenol or motrin, baby oil, baby powder, some diaper rash cream, cue tips, baby bootiesor socks(try to get white or unisex colors), a package of white onsies, an infant medicine droper kit, an infant nail care or hair care kit, a couple of bottles, a rattle and a teether, a bottle of rubbing alchol, some baby shampoo, things like that. (the dollar store has all these items at really reasonable prices so you wont have to spend so much to make the basket).also a great gift for mom such as a gift certificate to her favorite store or hair place would be a nice gesture.Believe me, I have 9 children and its always nice to think someone is also thinking of me though the new bundle of joy is the main focus of the event. Another handy and resonably priced gift is a baby monitor set.You never think you need these, until you need them. When it comes to a baby, think practical, not pretty.

I would avoid clothes the newborn baby gets so many clothes that sometimes they don't even get a chance to wear them all before they grow out of them. We just had a new grandson and here are some things either we got or wished we had and had to buy ourselves:

1. A small diaper bag with some odds and ends like one of those containers that hold premeasured formula

2. Gift certificates for diapers etc... Wal-mart is always a good choice this lets you fill in things you didn't get at the shower

3. Gift certificates for portraits. Wal-mart again is a good choice their picture packages are really inexpensive.

4. Books are always a great choice. "Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See", "Chicka, Chicka Boom Boom", are some of our favorites or any bedtime story collection book.

5 Babies First Bible

6. A package of cloth diapers these make the best burp pads and are good for 100 other things.

7. My daughter-in-law cherished anything hand made above all other things.

8. A kit to cast hand and feet prints.

What ever you get I am sure they will love it just have fun shopping.

You can buy something either a boy or girl can wear in green, yellow, blue or red. Find out what color scheme the nursery is in and buy something to cordinate with the nursery. Diapers, bathing accessories are always a great gift. Can give a gift certificate for a baby store for her to chose the gift also. Find out if she is registered any where such as target on the gift registry where they list the items they want for their child at that store.

Check to see if they have a registry at Target. If they do, you'll get some ideas there. If not, get receiving blankets, onesies, socks, ect., in neutrals, greens, and yellows. Another idea would be a gift card to Target, Babies R Us, some local baby store, or simply something like an American Express gift card that they can use wherever is most useful to them.

You can get things the mother will need no mater what, those always make the best gifts anyway!
Diapers, wipes, infant tylenol, grooming kit, digital thermometer, baby monitor, baby bathtub...

If you wanted to do a theme, you could by a baby bathtub and fill it up with baby soap, shampoo, lotion, hooded towel, and washcloths.
or a small colorful basket and fill it up with infant toys, teethers, etc.

If you wanted to buy a gift for mom, buy a new mommy book like "What to expect in the first year" or even go online and subscribe her to babytalk magazine and american baby magazine (their free for new moms).

If these don't help, you can always buy her a gift card to wal-mart, target, wherever, and give it to her in a cute card or stuffed animal gift card holder.

hope this helps!

Well, How can there be a 90% chance that it's a girl, and a 10% chance that it's a boy? That's weird..

You can buy neutral colors like yellow and green if the person isn't sure. Or you can give a gift card, bottle, pacifiers, toys, etc. You don't neccessarily have to get clothes.

my favorite shower gift was a diaper bag w/ all of the little things like a thermometor, q-tips, clippers, wash cloths, hooded towels, diaper wipes, buger sucker,
now when i go to showers, i do the bath tub and fill it w/ towels, cloths, a water thermometor, a rubber duck and the soaps and shampoos, it's just fun and your usually safe that way
