The Government keeps that word conveniently undefined.

Terrorism is the use of coercive means aimed at civilian populations in an effort to achieve political, religious, or other aims.

That’s what the World Trade Center bombing was, a particularly horrifying terrorist crime.

But then again, Nicaragua in the 1980s was subjected to violent assault by the U.S. Tens of thousands of people died.

What Israel is doing right now is an act of terrorism.

These are basic moral principles that many in the US and particularly here on answers.yahoo.com, choose to ignore.

the root of the word is "terror" . "ism" comes after it as a generalized way of discribing an incident that discribed 'terror' or inflict 'terror'. The wanton bombardment of lebanese civilians by the isrealis is an act of "terror" therefore it's terrorism. This is also true of hisbollas.
Therefore by this definition, you'll have to be honest and says if you hurt anyone even if your not a terrorist (the one many tv and critic seems to say they are) is by law an act of terror. But politically, it all resolves to who has the power and who dont to say and define what.

Terrorism refers to a strategy of using violence, or threat of violence targeted against innocents or non-combatants to generate fear, cause disruption, and ultimately, to bring about compliance with specific political, religious, ideological, and personal demands.[1] The targets of terrorist attacks typically are not the individuals who are killed, injured, or taken hostage, but rather the societies to which these individuals belong. Terrorism is a type of unconventional warfare designed to weaken or supplant existing political landscapes through capitulation or acquiescence, as opposed to subversion or direct military action. The broader influence of terrorism in the modern world is often attributed to the dramatic focus of mass media in amplifying feelings of intense fear and anger.

A mouthful eh?

Technical definition would be something like a person or group of persons that use fear to try to win their cause... usually by killing many civilians in order to create the extreme sense of fear.

From the other side, the terrorist side, they do not see it this way because they see their enemy as the entire society they are opposing.

It's all about strategy when you have an opponent that overpowers you financially and militarily. Kind of like David versus G. Since they can't take on an army head to head they have to find different means to try to win their cause/war.
