I had a boil lanced recently and due to not having insurance I did not got back and have the doctor take the packing out, I did it my self. The whole time I have had a hard spot next to the boil and it is still there. Is that normal?

What color is the tissue inside and around the site? If it is whit or pink you're in good shape, but if it's blackish, greenish, or anything else you need to go in, it's a sign of either infection or dying tissue. I'm wondering if you didn't end up infected by removing the gauze in a non-sterile way.

As long as it's not red, painful and obviously infected...it's probably the result of it healing from the inside.
