Tupac's father frozen out of rapper's will
A judge has refused to let Tupac Shakur's father collect any inheritance from the slain rapper's estate.
William Garland, a New Jersey trucker, was not entitled to anything because his contributions to support and care for his son were "minuscule," Superior Court Judge Arnold Gold ruled Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Garland wanted half of Shakur's estate, which could be worth millions. But Shakur's mother, Afeni, said Garland was an absentee father and did little to raise his biological son.
"This is a big defeat for deadbeat dads. Being the designated sperm is not enough," attorney Richard Fischbein, co-administrator of the Shakur estate with Afeni, said yesterday from his New York office.
Testimony during a three-day trial showed that Garland didn't see Shakur during 15 of his 25 years, and his contributions to his son's care included $820, a bag of peanuts and a ticket to the movie "Rollerball."
