Offensively, it all depends on Edge. If he can take that franchise and put it on his shoulders, then they may have a shot in the division. Defensively, they're 8th in the NFL last year, so if that can stay where it is, then they have a chance.

As a Cardinals fan, my only worry is the pitching. Mulder, Suppan and Marquis have pitched some gems this year, but they have been so inconsistent. Marquis is leading the NL in wins with a 5.62 ERA. Now that's run support. Carpenter is having another good year and could have a chance at winning another Cy Young Award. I think if they pick up another bat, then they have a chance to win it all, but the starting pitching has to be more consistent. Jeff Weaver is not the answer. If there is anyone that they could possibly pick up to help the starting pitching get a little better, then that would be great. Edmonds has turned his season around and Pujols and Rolen are having a great seasons. The rest of the offense has been fine. Picking up an outfield bat, even Craig Wilson from the Pirates would help. Encarnacion has been okay, but Taguchi/Rodriguez/Duncan in Left isn't going to cut it. I think Wilson would be a good step up. Of course, everyone dreams about getting Soriano, but I think that he won't be traded at all. We'll see.

I expect they'll finally live up to expectations. They had a top ten defense and a top ten offense last year -- the big problem was the running game. Edgerrin James should help out there, I think. Sure, the offensive line is still a mess, but if they can get that together, they could be a dangerous team in a weak division.

A couple years back Emmit Smith came into town and revved up attention...and nothing happened for him or the Cardinals. I wouldn't base an entire team's success around one person.

It's much too difficult to judge chemistry by how a team looks on paper. Sure, the additions of Edge and Leinart look to make the Cards better. But it all depends on how everyone meshes on the field. My inkling is that they'll be improved, though.

I think that they are going to win the division. They have a very lethal offense and they have a decent defense. There is one difference from this year and last year and that is Edge. All it takes is a good RB and that means that your team will be in it.

Offensively they should be good providing the OL can give James some room to run. Their biggest questions are on D. I see improvements but not enough to challenge for the division just yet.
