Ok, I have a 5 month old. She is 27 3/4 inches long and 17.4 pounds. Our car seat now says we should change at 29 inches and 22 pounds.. I have a feeling within' the next month and half I am going to be getting a new car seat because she is so tall!! Any suggestions on a bigger seat that is safe and easy to handle?

You are almost out of the infant category in terms of car seats. Some parents will start with a convertible car seat that cna be used rear facing for kids under 1 year and under 20-22 lbs. and then move it to forward facing. I believe you have an infant seat and YES you should consider getting a new seat and most likely a convertible.

The best and most popular seats are made by Britax. The Marathon (as some of the people mentioned here) is the most popular model and can be used forward facing up to 65 lbs and it will take care of the month or two you will need it forward facing for you baby. You can see great selection of Marathon's starting at 249.99 with free shipping at http://www.kidzthings.com/convertible.html

You also have other choices from Britax like the Boulevard for 299.99 or the Decathlon for 284.99 which are the top of the line models. I would not recommend the Roundabout since the weight limit on this model is only 40 lbs and the way your baby is growing it would not be a good solution.

I hope this will help.

I vote for the Britax - either the Roundabout or the Marathon. They're known for being really well made, and I have to say that from looking at several, they really are the best. I also like the velcro that keeps the straps out of the way while buckling them in. My baby is 4 mo and she's 16 lbs & 26 in. long, so we'll be switching soon too.

Anything with a five point harness. Don't mess around with the ones that have lap bars, babies often use their feet to kick at the bottoms of it, my daughter destroyed the fabric covering that was over the plastic this way. She's much happier in a harness model anyway, i think it gives her a sense of being less confined, but in reality -in my opinion- these keep the baby more secure than a lap bar anyway. Everybody else i know with kids has switched to harness models as well, for varying reasons but they are all happier with them. And yes, make sure it's one that can grow with your child from rear facing to booster seat, they are often a bit more expensive, but well worth the extra money!

Just be careful ... I think the law in some states requires that infants be in rear facing seats until they are 12 months old.

We have a tall baby too, and are currently having issues with her fitting into the rear facing "carrier" type seat.

You wont find a carrier, if thats what your looking for, but there are alot on the market. I have chosen the ones that go to 80 lbs. They can still rear face...and they last until the child no longer needs a seat!!! Not all of them rear face, so make sure when your looking to find one that does!

babies need to face rear until they are 12 months and have good head control, and are over 20 lbs (i think). check with ped. about that. get a reversible that goes rear and forward.
