No i just had to unzip mine and pull them down a bit on one side, you'll be lying down so they won't fall down or anything. If your worried wear track-pants or something as they're easier to pull down a little and it means less chaffing on the new tat till you get home. and it's not trashy...i've had one on my hip for 3 years and NEVER been called trashy for it.

I have a rather large tattoo on my hip (about 5"x5") and what I did was wear loose pants that had a zipper when I got it. If you are concerned with keeping your modesty during a hip tattoo then it probably isn't for you. I rolled the side of my pants down once I was laying down so my butt wasn't out for the world to see and pulled that side of my panties down. Different people have different ideas on how to accomodate clothing during tattoos on different body parts. If it concerns you that much you can always call your tattoo artist the day of to ask what would be the easiest thing to wear also.

Well the first thing you really need to consider is what you want as a tattoo. If you do not put some sort of personal meaning in it, or something that you feel passionate about, you will regret it. Take the time to think about what you want before you get it done. Don't just find something you think is cute at the time and have it slapped on. Look into a tat that will mean something to you for the rest of your life. I made that mistake myself, but luckily had a wonderful cover up artist and do not regret the cover up because it meant something to me. But the shoulder blades and side of your stomach are fairly easy to hide if you are willing to dress conservatively around your parents. I hid mine for three years, and the best thing is to be honest about it and let them know, but if you are like me, you should wait a while until the mood is right to tell them and when you know that it is something you wont regret.

Everyone I ever talked to said they just unzipped and pulled the pants down farther where the work was being done. I don't think any of them had to actually take off their pants.
I only have ones on my back and foot, so I'm not sure from personal experience if they had to take them off or not.

gee! i dunno. talk to the tattoo guy/gal. depends how far down on your hip. i gotta ask this - if you're so adverse to dropping your pants (for a tattoo), why are you getting a tattoo where you'll have to drop your draws for it to be seen? curious!

I just pulled them down just below where I wanted the tattoo. Funny, that one really hurt, and I felt sick while they were doing it, but almost fell asleep when they did the one on my shoulder blade!

You only have to drop your drawers as far down as you want the tattoo. Please make sure the tattoo parlor is clean. Hepatitis is a very real danger!

You can take 'em off if you want to. It's not required.
