Is possible to make my own custom ringtones? How can I do it?

I figured out how to record audio, but I can't set it as a ringtone. Anyone know how to do this?

This is a great site if your phone will do MP3 ringtones. You can crop you current mp3's and send them with this link. Do a google search for a program that will let you do the cropping.
