I think you`ll find he`s English you muppet. If he WAS American he would not have been denied access TO America recently due to idiot Customs officials seeing the name Yussef Islaam and a report alleging he was fomenting racial hatred.
Yes he converted to Islam ,yes he changed his name BUT he was and remains a peace-loving man who made great NON-Rock records.

Wouldn't know about him reciting the Quran, but he did some awesome music way back. Like *Father and Son*, *Oh Very Young*, *Morning Has Broken* and others.

Sis loved him (she's 13 years my senior) and I still play his songs from the time before he got all screwed up and became a Muslim.

I have all his albums from before his conversion, awesome musician and song writer, and his voice is very unique. Have not heard him since but would like to, as I am sure he is still wonderful, I just have not had the opportunity to listen to anything he has done lately. I still listen to the albums pretty often.

ps - it was Peace Train, not Soul Train.

Yes, he is. I have his Very Best Of cd and I love it. He was interviewed right after 9/11 and they got him to sing part of Peace Train. it was very moving b/c he hadn't sung any of his songs in many years, since he converted to Islam.

Yes. He is a former American rock star. I don't believe he performs any longer though. You can probably still buy CDs with his music though.
